COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS

COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS

Viking gymnasts have the option to participate in USA Gymnastics (USAG) or Amateur Athletic Union Gymnastics of Illinois (AAU GIJO) sanctioned competitions. Having more than one program to choose from, at both the compulsory and optional levels, allows us to find the best fit for your child. Becoming a competitive gymnast is a significant commitment that involves dedication from the entire family. Therefore, entry into our competitive program requires agreement from the coaching staff, yourself, and your child.

We believe in nurturing well-rounded athletes who are not only skilled in gymnastics but also exhibit qualities of sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance. Through our competitive program, we aim to empower young ladies and gentlemen to reach their full potential to succeed both in and out of the gym.

Competitive gymnastics is a year-round commitment. Gymnasts will compete in approximately five to seven competitions per year. Any student at Viking may have an opportunity to join our competitive teams. Gymnasts must meet specific criteria to be considered for recommendation and invited for a trial.

Boys USAG

Boys USAG

LEVELS 3 THROUGH 10

Viking’s boys’ USAG program prioritizes safety, personal best, and good work ethic while motivating our athletes to push boundaries. Our gymnasts practice from 7 to 16 hours weekly depending on their level, which is less than some other programs. We believe that efficient practices, combined with proper strength and conditioning allow our students to both excel in their sport and have time for other experiences.

LEVELS 4 THROUGH 8

Viking’s GIJO program prioritizes safety, personal best, and good work ethic while motivating our athletes to push boundaries. Illinois coaches created the GIJO program, part of AAU, to provide an alternate experience to USAG. The GIJO program provides a smaller time commitment – our gymnasts practice up to eight hours per week – and more flexibility in skill development.
